The calendar of the ‘new normality’: five stages races and two classics

News · 2 July, 2020

Five stage races and two one-day races will make up the ‘new’ Kometa-Xstra Cycling Team calendar with the restart and recovery of the cycling calendar. A very international planning, with a lot of competition against structures of more category and level, that in addition will entail challenges as far as the infrastructure of the team is concerned by the coincidence of dates of two of the great objectives of the season.

The first commitment will be the Vuelta Ciclista a Burgos, to be disputed between July 28th and August 1st. The Circuito de Getxo, on August 2nd, with a harder edition, will be the next competitive stop of the Kometa-Xstra Cycling Team. Five days later the continental structure of the Alberto Contador Foundation will move to France to face, between 7 and 9 August, a new edition of the Tour de l’Ain.

The Giro d’Italia u23 and the Tour of Hungary will be the team’s main attractions during the last days of August and the first days of September. With the reconfiguration of the calendar sponsored by the International Cycling Union, both the Italian and the Magyar events have practically overlapped. This has not been an impediment for the team to take up the two invitations, given the importance of both events, which begin on August 29. The Giro will conclude on September 5, while the Tour of Hungary will have done it on the 2nd of the same month.

Between the 17th and the 20th of September the main novelty of the continental formation’s calendar will emerge: the Ronde de l’Isard. The French race, usual international commitment of the amateur structure, will be disputed on this occasion by the first team of the foundation. The 43rd edition of the Ronde, postponed from its traditional dates in May, is one of the most demanding races of the U23 calendar. The route includes a 11.6 km time trial and offers climbs such as Port de Balés, Ax-3-Domaines, Col d’Agnes and Col de Peguere.

On October 12th the Kometa-Xstra Cycling Team will take part in the Spanish dean: the Villafranca-Ordizia Klasika race. It will be the last race that the team will compete in this so atypical 2020 where the season, after a technical stop of four months, returns to the roads with 27 days ahead.
